Kinematic 0.5.0 is out. Modeling and sculpting in the viewport, a timeline on every graph, photo and sound editing. What's new
Kinematic / Simulate / Rigid bodies

Simulate rigid bodies.

Dominoes, wrecking balls, bowling pins and walls that shatter.

a ball smashing through a wall of glued pieces
01

Drop a row of balls

Same drop, different bounce, from dead to rubbery.

  1. Drop five balls from different heights.
  2. Give each its own bounce.
  3. Watch them settle.
PhysicsBody→PhysicsGround→PhysicsWorld→PhysicsExtractTransforms
five balls dropped side by side, each bouncing its own way
02

Topple dominoes

Thirty dominoes and one push.

  1. Line them up along a curve.
  2. Push the first one.
  3. Watch the chain go.
PhysicsBody→PhysicsImpulse→PhysicsWorld
thirty painted dominoes toppling one after another along an S curve, down to the last one
03

Swing a wrecking ball

A heavy ball on a cable, into a wall of bricks.

  1. Hang the ball from an anchor.
  2. Stack the bricks.
  3. Pull it back and let go.
PhysicsBody→PhysicsConstraint→PhysicsWorld
a steel ball swinging down on its cable and bursting through a brick wall, the bricks tumbling across the floor
04

Bowl a strike

Ten pins, one ball, one push.

  1. Set up the pins.
  2. Push the ball down the lane.
  3. Change the angle and try again.
PhysicsBody→PhysicsImpulse→PhysicsWorld
a glossy ball rolling down a maple lane into the pocket, all ten pins scattering in slow motion
05

Shatter a wall

Glued pieces that hold until something hits them hard enough.

  1. Break the wall into pieces.
  2. Glue the pieces together.
  3. Throw a light ball at it, then roll a heavy one.
3DGeoVoronoiFracture→PhysicsBodiesFromPieces→PhysicsGlueConstraint→PhysicsWorld
a light rubber ball bouncing off a glued concrete wall, then a heavy iron ball rolling into its foot as the glue lets go piece by piece
06

Build a spinning machine

A hinge that turns on its own, at the speed you set.

  1. Hinge a rod to a post.
  2. Put a motor on the hinge.
  3. Set the speed, or control it from a knob.
PhysicsBody→PhysicsMotor→PhysicsWorld
a motor turning an arm on a hinge, batting falling balls away
Take it further

It all connects.
